Hands-On Science

I started these pages long ago (late 1990s) and haven't updated since 2000. The available resources on the internet have changed immensely since then (e.g. YouTube). Most of the links on the pages have broken, and many of the more spectacular ("DON'T DO THIS AT HOME") videos have disappeared. So I have minimally updated these pages, and don't expect to do much more here.

Background

Since you should be suitably skeptical of getting information from the internet, here are our science credentials:

Susan Wells Rollinson: Carleton College, Chemistry, BA; University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, Organic Chemistry, MS, PhD

Lon Rollinson: California Institute of Technology, Chemical Engineering, BS; University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, Chemical Engineering, MS, PhD

Susan has used most of these experiments and demonstrations with elementary school kids--mostly K through 6th grades. A few have been used with college students. One or two have not been personally tested.
